Feeeeeeeeeelings... - 21 December 2003 . 14:34

The holidays are nearly upon us now so I'd like to wish a happy and safe holiday season to everyone here.

Now on to the good stuff...

Things with Wild Man have progressed a great deal. We are spending more and more time together and I'm seeing us spending more time together in the future. I have tried not to get ahead of myself, tried to keep my feelings on a very short leash, but to no avail. I find myself walking around with a constant silly grin (you know the grin I mean) and being far too optimistic about things to come and life in general. This incessant smiling makes me very easy to read by anyone I happen to encounter, opening the door for all kinds of conversation I'd normally avoid.

But I'm not complaining.

But it's not just sweet talking and stolen moments that have me walking in the clouds.

Friday morning he and I left work together (the first time that we've ever done so). We stopped for coffee and then drove through the country and parked by the river. We sat in his truck talking and just relaxing with each other while we watched and listened to the rain coming down. It was, oy, I'm at a loss for words. Being with him, his arm around me, the two of us talking and enjoying every moment we shared was just a beautiful and fulfilling experience. I hated to see it end, and when he drove me home and walked me inside, I could see that he did too. We hugged and said "goodbye" about 5 or 6 times as he dilly-dallied, not wanting to go.

And then he mentioned (again) that he's taking his vacation the last week of the year. I asked him what he had planned and he said, "I hope to be spending a lot more time out this way." Then he said, "I thought I'd get in some hunting and work around the house on the days you have to work and on the days you're off we can go out and just spend time together."

*Sigh*

I'm definitely starting to have those feelings. The ones that express themselves in ALL CAPS. hehe.

* * * * * * *

I normally mail out my Christmas cards the first week of December but this year I've been a tad distracted. So my cards didn't go in the mail until December 19th! After I had addressed and placed a stamp on each envelope, I stacked them neatly on the hall table by the front door. I intended to use my mailing labels instead of writing out my address on each envelope. I found the labels, put them beside the envelopes, and got distracted by something (chalk it up to my short attention span). By the time my attention got back the cards I panicked because it was about 10 minutes before the mail is usually delivered. I grabbed the cards, put them in the mailbox and gave no thought to the fact that none of them had a return address! Hope they all get delivered!

As for gifts, I've finally (I think) finished all my shopping and part of my wrapping. Wrapping presents is not my idea of a good time so I normally put the task off until the last minute. When I say last minute I mean the absolute last minute. Picture me in the car on my way to Christmas dinner, one hand on the wheel and the other trying to wrap a gift.

My sister and I went to the bookstore yesterday. I picked up a couple of Stephen King paperbacks for Mom (two of the very few she doesn't already own), a book for my favorite co-worker and a book for myself. (Hey, it was on clearance and they only had a couple left!) I asked for a specific book for Christmas and as my sister and I were walking around she said, "They have it now! I can't believe it! I already got you something else because I couldn't find this book anywhere." There was only one copy in the store. As we walked away from the book, I seriously considered walking back to buy it for myself. My plan was thwarted however because as I went back to the display I found the book was gone. :(

I'll be glad when the holidays are over. No more 24 hour heavy traffic, no more crowded stores, decreased amounts of "BUY ME THIS" commercials, and life as we know it returns to normal. Don't take that as a Scrooge attitude. On the contrary, I love gift-giving and watching people's expressions as they open their gifts. I just don't like the pushing and shoving and aggrivation that is holiday shopping.

Speaking of Christmas and gift-giving, both Wild Man and I have to work Christmas Eve night, meaning we'll both be there until 7 a.m. Christmas Day. If things in the office are slow, as I hope they will be, I'm planning to give him his gift just after midnight. That way we can ring in Christmas Day together. (Say it with me: awwwwwwww. LOL)

Further bulletins as events warrant. Until then, take care and thanks for reading :)
