The Great Cornhulio... - 06 February 2003 . 07:29 "I Am" by John Clare (1793-1864) I am; yet what I am no one cares or knows; My friends forsake me like a memory lost, I am the self-consumer of my woes-- They rise and vanish in oblivious host, Like shadows in love's frenzied stifled throes--And yet I am, and live--like vapors tossed. Into the nothingness of scorn and noise, Into the liing sea of waking dreams, Where there is neither sense of life or joys, But the vast shipwreck of my life's esteems; Even the dearest, that I love the best, And stranger--nay, stranger than the rest. I long for scenes where man has never trod, A place where woman has never smiled or wept--There to abide with my Creator, God, And sleep as I in childhood so sweetly slept, Untroubling and untroubled where I lie, The grass below--above, the vaulted sky. Such a beautiful poem. And very true to life. Each time I read it I feel slightly renewed and understood. Today I realized I have not written a poem since 1998. That's a looooong time to go without creating prose... So today, in an effort to tap into my deeply hidden creative well, I won't be posting anything original. Instead, I will share with you, dear readers (~grin~) some of my favorite poems....the ones that reflect my current feelings.... "No. 83" by Ernest Hemingway We leave them all quite easily When dislike overcomes our love. Though nothing is done easily When there's been love. We leave and go and go to where? What treasures are entrusted there? Who knows when treasures treasures are Who's only seen them from afar? Who, knowing treasure, does not fear When he has seen it close and near? Fear not, hie up, close up my lad That all of gladness may be sad. "To You - As I Think of You Now" by Walt Whitman And that my soul embraces you this hour And we affect each other without seeing And perhaps never again to see each other Is every bit as wonderful. And that I can think such thoughts Is just as wonderful And that I can remind you And you think them and know them to be true Is just as wonderful. "Tears, Idle Tears" by Alfred Lord Tennyson-1847 Tears, idle tears I know not what they mean Tears from the depth of some divine despair Rise in the heart and gather to the eyes In looking on happy autumn fields And thinking of days that are no more. And, finally, a silly entry from my senior high school year book (written by Kristin Gibson)... Fear not my friend. Let the force be with you. Live long and prosper and thou shalt be happy. Cowards die many times before their death. The valiant taste of death but once. Whatever you and I are we are not dead yet--I hope. Let the sun shine in your heart and let the Bud flow. Most of all never forget the refrigerator light goes out when you close the door and always remember to follow the smell, no matter how repulsive. The rocks, bread and churches of the world do not float; no matter how small. Remember our friendship always! Most importantly, when drinking out of the toilet, DON'T SLAM THE LID! Silliness is goooooooood....
