Affliction - 13 February 2003 . 04:50 Happy almost Valentine's Day! Yesterday, was Day 2 of visiting my Mom and my sister who live 2 hours away....the visit was great and renewing, as always. I was originally going to leave on Wednesday but since I didn't get here until late Tuesday I decided to stay an extra day. Well, that and the fact that I can't see while driving after dark. Getting old is hell. I have to have my eyes checked. Almost 25 years, no eye problems. Now it's as if the warranty has expired and they've gone all to pot. Had a pleasant chat with Sir Z last night. Got semi-caught up on the ongoing Buffy soap and got a little info on the Angel series. Also breached the subject of women complaining they can never find a good guy yet always dating jerks... I didn't get to fully explain my thoughts during the chat because, since there is a 3 hour time difference between our residences, it was pretty late (my time) and I needed to get a nap. On the whole, I think it's true that women want to find a good guy yet, when approached by a good guy, they rebuke him as if he bore the plague. Then, they get entangled with a handsome-nothing-but-trouble type who breaks their heart and perhaps wreaks financial havoc. (I can say this with great certainty because I am completely guilty of this very act.) Once the emotional pain has been inflicted, the woman (much like an alcoholic swearing off the firewater) vows never again to repeat this "mistake" and says "all I want is a good man who will love me for who I am." But I think maybe it's the adrenaline that goes along with infatuation or the initial attraction that sometimes goes along with becoming acquainted with some stranger. Perhaps the troublesome fellows give off a whopping dose of pheremones or an aura oozing adrenaline that temporarily overrides sanity in the female. There is, in my opinion, something exciting and mysterious about a dark, handsome man of action (albeit it possibly criminal action) and it's as if they're more adept at using the conversation and their charms to their advantage. It's like a really excellent car salesman...you wanted the reliable, reasonably-priced, fuel-efficient model and after a few moments with the salesman you drive off in the ridiculously-priced, two-seater sports car with the fuel economy of 3 miles per gallon. You weren't looking for it, hell you didn't even want it, but the wily being hypnotised you and, once your pupils were fully dilated, explained how you just couldn't possibly live without it... Yeah, right. I've lived this. I've said these words. So what do I do once I've "recovered" and feel the desperate pinings for a relationship? I go out and find another handsome-nothing-but-trouble type and repeat the above all over again! I've been through enough of these cycles that I've decided my self-punishment is over and I'm ready to find a nice guy...for real this time... I'm working up the courage to contact "the one that got away" (see my last entry) in an attempt to pour my heart out and let him know that I love him. A bold, skurry move that, knowing me, will most certainly end in great disaster. So when the animals start acting strange and it begins to snow on a 90 degree day, you'll know why...
